August Grape of the Month – Torrontés

Grape of the month - AugustThe grape of the month for August is Torrontés.  This is a white grape that originated in Argentina.  The grape resulted from a cross between the Muscat grape and the Chilean Pais grape.   There are three varieties of Torrontés:  Riojano, Sanjuanino, and Mendocino.  Torrontés Riojano is the most prevalent and most aromatic and is mainly grown in the northern region of Salta.  Torrontés Riojano wines are usually made in a dry style; however, they often have a sweet aroma.  Common flavors found in Torrontés wine are lemon, peach, rose petals, and white flowers.
