The grape of the month for August is Torrontés. This is a white grape that originated in Argentina. The grape resulted from a cross between the Muscat grape and the Chilean Pais grape. There are three varieties of Torrontés: Riojano, Sanjuanino, and Mendocino. Torrontés Riojano is the most prevalent and most aromatic and is mainly grown in the northern region of Salta. Torrontés Riojano wines are usually made in a dry style; however, they often have a sweet aroma. Common flavors found in Torrontés wine are lemon, peach, rose petals, and white flowers.
